Journey 1: Bali Day 2

Day 2, we woke up early in the morning to take the speda ride from the hotel we were staying to Kintamani. As shown in the above pic, the distance that we were going to take was about 60 plus kilometres. If you are used to riding a bike for 60 km over per day, it shouldn't be any problem for you.

Self snapshot before heading out from the room. With the quality provided by the hotel to what we'd paid for it, it was the best deal ever. The room was clean and the bed was extra cozy. Although the view was not that great as ours was facing somebody else's house, we never had any complaint for what we had over there. Most importantly, the WIFI connection was fantastic.

Picture of ourself on the speda. Ignore the safety feature on my head since we were only provided with those pair of helmets. Can't expect me to fork out money for new set of helmets. Haha.

Bali road condition was good enough. Well, at least for us who stayed over 4 nights. The amount of motorists was huge and it did increase during peak hours. So don't expect excellent road conditions over there.

You will see lots of this thing while surfing through Bali traffic. The main religion in Bali is Buddhism. Over there, some rituals were performed in certain places, it would be nice for tourists to stop by and watch.

Self-snapshots while we were on the scooter. Skies were clear and the weather was a bit hot.

One thing for sure, if you rent a motorbike in Bali, don't worry much about the gas/fuel. There were a lot of small groceries (they call it warung) that had fuel by the side of the road. The cost of a bottle varies, depending on the places you're at. However, it shouldn't cost you more than RM4/bottle. Trust me, renting a motorbike will save your traveling time hustling & bustling through Bali's traffic and also your expense on transportation.

Imagine the stench we had when we were trailing this small pick up van

The thing that caught our attention was the schooling system in Bali. It seemed that they brought cleaning tools to school. Another thing, we could not guess their school period. Imagine at 11 in the morning, we could see students walking home in groups. Maybe they finished school earlier compared to our local edu system.

After few hours (Yes, hours) on the speda, we reached Kintamani when the place was a bit cloudy. The scenery was picturesque. 3 hours well spent on a 100cc scooter, all they way from Kuta with limited stops. Haha.

Pictures taken while we were at Kintamani. The view of the volcano was outstanding. We went down to the lake just to get another look of the volcano itself.

Haha. Had to ask my wife to climb uphill since the speda was overload. The upclimbing was steep so one had to be left behind for a while. =P

Lunch at one of the halal restaurants with excellent view of the Mount Kintamani. Wife had ayam bakar madu while I opted for the buffet selections. Lunch was okay. Couldn't complain much since we were very hungry. Hehe.

On the way back to Kuta, it rained cats and dogs. We had to stopped by at a local store to buy some ponchos. Luckily it only rained at some parts on the way back. At least, the rain managed to cool ourself a bit since the weather was a bit hot and humid.

We also manage to grab another couple of pictures. The journey back from Kintamani was a bit tiring, considering we were already on the bike for quite some time. We didn't spend too much time at Kintamani and rushed back because I preferred to reach our hotel before sunset. Overall, the 2nd day experience was more on discovering new places. We didn't do much shopping except for some key chains that I got for a bargain. So, Kintamani was out of our list. Next stop would be Tanah Lot. Spoiler alert, it was awesome!

Journey 1: Bali Day 1

Yes, instead of booking through tour agencies, we decided to take things on our own. Booked the flight tickets and our accommodation few months earlier without knowing what to expect for our first journey. Luckily Kam's eldest sister had been to Bali and she shared her itinerary before we embarked on the Air Asia plane.

It was the first time for both of us to take the ERL to LCCT. Not really sure how long would it take for us to get there, we went out from the apartment as early as 5.30 a.m in the morning. (-_-)

Our flight was scheduled at 10.50 am but we reached LCCT at 7.00. Performed our prayer and managed to grab a quick breakfast before we checked in our luggage. AK1360 took off without any problem leaving Kuala Lumpur bound for Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar, Bali.

3 hours later, the plane arrived safely. I can say that the airport was busy receiving airliners from various countries. The weather was in superb condition and we couldn't wait to explore the island by ourself.

We had to get off from the plane and took a shuttle bus to the airport entrance. The process was quick so luckily we did not have to stand under the hot sun for a long time.

Finding a taxi wasn't a big deal since there were a lot of them waiting outside the arrival hall. We managed to get one taxi to the hotel. The distance of the airport to the play where we'd be staying was not that far it took us about half an hour to get there-- due to the traffic in Bali, massive! We stayed in a nice hotel called The Grey and was greeted by the friendly staffs upon our arrival.

First thing on the checklist was to get a two wheel ride so we booked a scooter (they called it speda over there) for a rate of RM15.00 per day. That's quite cheap and recommendable for those who plan to travel on limited budget. Just go to the hotel's front desk and they'll be happy to book one speda for you.

We took the chance on the first day to explore Kuta Beach and the surrounding areas where our accommodation was located. One thing for sure, think TWICE if you're opting for car rental and drive to Kuta Beach, the traffic was massive especially at night. And please be mindful that Bali motorists are high risk takers when they are on the road. Honking was part of our ear tunes. If you survive riding a bike in KL, then go ahead, take out your guts and rent a scoot in Bali.

After the ride, we went back to the hotel to rest. The 2nd day would be the toughest day of all since we were going to travel to Kintamani. A 60 over km ride on the speda that could literally cause pain in the ass. Lol. So far, the first day was really on getting to know what Bali was like and also learning their cultures especially in surviving on their roads. Stay tuned for Journey 1: Bali Day 2.
