Journey 2: Korea 3rd e-icon World contest Day 4 & 5

Hye!

Sorry for the delay. Was very busy these few days helping anak-anak completing their projects physically and mentally.

1st sept 2013

it was the final day for the participants to complete all the things that need to be done since from 2nd Sept onwards, we have to go to COEX Exhibition Centre in Seoul for the next stage.

it seems like most of the participants were stressing out during the final day since they need to get every things done perfectly.

looking at this very scenario, it hits me hard. it reminded me of the days that i used to want everything to be perfect and not trusting other people to do any job because i am afraid that they will ruin it. I shared my stories with my anak-anak, about how this is all just another stage in life where we thought that other people is incapable of doing things like we do. while in reality, we can actually put our trust on others (although there will be people who will frustrate us) and because of the trust, everything will be okay (not perfect, but OKAY).

having to encounter this situation, i secretly hope that somebody would have told me the same thing when i was having the same dilemma back in my teenage years. :') but i am thankful that i have got the chance to tell this to my students. all in all, 4th day is full of dramas and sweats. Alhamdulillah, everyone managed to go through it and it is time to prepare for our official presentation!
 *focused!*

*bile dh stress, mcm2 pose ade ;)*
2nd sept 2013

presentation day!!!all the girls decided to wear kurungs today! had to admit, the air was pretty intense in the morning since all the anak-anak were preparing for their official presentation. wafiah presented for team d, justin for team k, while ahhyun (korean) presented on behalf of team G.

the truth is, I AM the who stressed out the most. LOL! because the girls freaked out a bit during the local contest. so i was afraid that it will happen again. adding the fact that i couldn't be in the presentation room at all! (although the volunteer had actually invited me to get into the room because she thought that i am one of the participants!haha) so all i could do was to 'eavesdrop' at the door. but i think, it went well and alhamdulillah during the q&a session they managed to be on track.

while the girls celebrated their 'pre-freedom', the boys were still stressing out waiting for their turns.

 *now entering*

 *and now we are back!*
 *our lovely team coordinator, Seeun*
during lunch hour, the girls' korean teacher decided to give us a little tour. we thought 'a little' tour means walking down the road to find food that we can eat. after 5 minutes of walking, only then we realised that his definition of 'a little' tour means that we are going on a 40 minutes bus trip! he is actually really excited to bring us to Itaewon since there will be halal food there and he is looking forward to go to the mosque while we pray.

the rest of the day went fine. we head back to Yongin and had our good night sleep. 6th day is definitely going to be a long day.

*other teams playing with our puppets ;)*

*more brainstorming session*

Monitoring the participants throughout the content development sessions has opened my eyes about the importance of letting the students to have enough time to develop and complete their school homework/materials. We can't expect our students to deliver good performance if we didn't give them enough time and support. *take note of that, Kamilah*
Moving on to the highlight of the day - I was invited by a Korean teacher to have a drink with teachers from other countries (i.e. Republic of Sakha, Russia). We had a really long talk about education in our countries, cultures and one of the most highlighted topics of the night was regarding religions. I guess they are very curious about why Muslims women have to wear scarfs; isn't it restricting us from doing our daily chores, why I can't drink beer (they actually provided me with orange juice :D) and eat pork, why do we fast during Ramadhan and many more. Tried to answer all questions wholeheartedly, hoping that they will understand Islam more and based on their responses, I believe that they now have different perspectives on Islam, Alhamdulillah. *even my students are treated differently now ;)*
That's all for the 3rd day. Will recap what has happened today (1st Sept), tomorrow.
Annyeong hi gye seyo!

Journey 2: Korea e-icon world contest Day 2

30th August

Another day had passed. Anak-anak and I are doing well here in Yongin. We started our morning with cereals and bread and later we headed to the Education building for the opening ceremony.

*anak-anak waiting for opening ceremony*

During the opening ceremony, the general manager of IACE delivered a welcoming speech and Mr. Ivan Sidorov from last year delivered a speech as the participants' representative.

*the participants AND advisory teachers had to introduce ourselves during the opening ceremony*

*volunteers*

*team D*
 *team G*
*team K*

Living by the clock, the ceremony ended exactly at 12.00pm and its time for our lunch. It is quite practical for us since the Dhuhur time here is around 12.30, so we could perform our solah during the 1 and a half hour break.

In the evening, all of the participants started to gather in their teams and continue to develop their contents. The session ended at 6.00pm but I had to go back to my room earlier since I got a terrible headache and had to consume panadol to stop the pain.

The headache might sound terrible, but my anak-anak managed to cheer me up by coming to my crib and had late night supper together ;)

Last but not least, Salam Kemerdekaan to all Malaysians :))

Journey 2: Korea e-icon world contest Day 1

28-29th August 2013

Hello. I know that our Bali entries have not completed yet. Well, it has been pretty intense lately with workload and as this entry suggested, I am now in Korea! But this time around it is not for leisure purposes *down* I had to accompany 6 Malaysian students to a world contest here in Seoul. And the saddest part of all is, I have to leave my other half back in Malaysia :((

Being as understanding as he always is, he never hesitates about letting me go to Korea without him by my side. :)

Continue on with our journey to Korea. We departed to Incheon International Airport on 28th of August and we arrived 7 hours later at 7.30am (Korea time). Our journey got delayed a bit due to a typhoon and quite rough weather. Alhamdulillah, we managed to arrive in Korea in one piece. :)

When we arrived at Incheon International Airport, e-icon volunteers and staffs have already waited for us. We were warmly welcomed by Seoul's rain and wind! It truly reminds me of Wellington ;) we departed for Lotte Academy via bus provided for us and the journey took around 1 and a half hour.

At Lotte Academy, we thought we could straight away get our rooms and rest. But unfortunately we had to wait for another 2 hours before we got the keys because the rooms are not ready yet.but once we reached our room, we were definitely thrilled by the cleanliness and how comfortable our rooms are!

Our very first meal weren't that successful as most of my 'new kids' cannot bear with the Korean taste. So most of us had to 're-lunch' using food that we brought from Malaysia. ;) but alhamdulillah,  neither the kids nor me had to sleep with empty stomach.

All in all, I have to say that our first day is quite interesting despite all the waitings. :)

Abang Burn jajahan indera mahkota round 1

take a break from Bali adventures for a while.

We were thrilled when we knew Abang Burn is spreading his love here in Kuantan.and tonight is the night for both of us to join in the fun.felt glad when the queuing is not (yet) that treacherous. Enough said we enjoyed the company of beef and lamb as our dinner ;)
